Syrian Orthodox Church leaders took the Hungarian citizenship oath

Two Syrian Orthodox Church leaders took the Hungarian citizenship oath on Wednesday in Hungary’s Erbil Consulate in Iraq reported the State Secretariat of the Ministry of Human Capacities on Thursday.

According to the statement, Syrian Orthodox Bishop Sharaf Saman Matti Sharaf (Nicodemus Daud Matti Sharaf) and Azeez Raed Ablahad (Mor Timothius Mousa A. Shamani) were granted Hungarian citizenship by President János Áder on June 12.

After the oath taking ceremony,

Archbishop Nicodemus Daud Matti Sharaf expressed his thanks to the President of Hungary, the Government of Hungary and the Hungarian people for their “goodness and sympathy”.

The archbishop said when the terrorists of the Islamic State expelled them out of their homes, they felt very alone. The acquisition of Hungarian nationality can be considered as an aid to the Syrian Orthodox Church; scholarships offered for young Syrians Christians by the Hungarian government worth far more than financial or technical assistance, he added.

AS we wrote before, Egyptian Jesuit priest P. Henri Boulad took the Hungarian citizenship oath in the Hungarian Parliament.

As we wrote on August, the deputy prime minister, Zsolt Semjén said, Hungary is ready to take in an Iranian Christian woman about to be expelled from Sweden.
